Why is being a parent who is a student and or an employee a conflict? Why is it an important issue to address?
It's simple, like the article Unsociable Work? Nonstandard Work Schedules, Family Relationships, and
Children's Well-Being by Lyndall Strazdins, Mark S. Clements, etl. states that on many people and jobs are not your typical Monday through Friday 9-5pm anymore. We are shying away from the mythical norm and what TV portrays as normal across the board. The mythical norm is described as a two parent house hold that functions in a routine where the mom stays at home while the dad goes off to work. It is the twenty first century and times have changed.
A common issue for a lot of parents arises when day care centers close (usually after 6pm) and there is no one available to adequately care for ones child. Because of this issue, problems occur such as: How do moms/dads find the time to study? How will mothers and fathers have couple time? Bonding time with their children? How is there time to do the basics like eat/sleep/have fun and still be a fulfilling person, mother, wife, employee, and student?
It is possible that you yourself don't have any children but if you do and when you do this (and many other things) will still be an issue. It might not be something you experience immediately but it is likely to happen to everyone at one point in time and that is why it is important to know what families and mothers in specific go through.
There will always be conflicts that parents have to face, especially single parents. Trying to juggle children, a job, or even attending school can be very difficult and stressful too. Parents tend to feel alone when they face barriers, and we want them to understand that they are not ALONE and you're not the only ones going through this. There are people all over the world that are dealing with the same circumstances and are understanding of how difficult it is to juggle: family, work, and school. WE ALL, NOT JUST PARENT TO PARENT, NEED TO GIVE SUPPORT TO MOTHERS AND FATHERS WHO JUGGLE.
